Subsurface Utilities Engineering

The underground world houses a myriad of subsurface utilities, storage tanks, voids, hidden obstacles, and many other manmade and natural features that could impact a project’s cost and schedule if not addressed and remedied prior to engineering design and construction. Locating, identifying, and mapping as many potential underground conflicts as possible in the beginning of a project is vital to avoiding and minimizing conflicts during construction. LJA’s experience and knowledge in the collection and depiction of existing subsurface utility data using surface geophysical methods, pneumatic-excavation, and hydro-excavation equipment not only shows what lies beneath the project site, it allows us to develop a plan for removal, relocation, accommodation, and/or repair. Having a clear picture of what lies below often results in savings in the design and construction budget. Out of sight doesn’t mean off our minds.
